Total Commander for OpenSolaris?

Permalink 05/06/09 12:16, by Nik Maslov, Categories: Welcome

Well - there is no Total Commander for unix systems, but there are few alternatives:

- native Midnight Commander (old and trusty workhorse, done with ncurses).
Very handy on servers without XServer, or if you like rouge-like interface (like me). Check out google for MC tips`n`tricks. Sorry for not providing you with mine - i just don`t use any MC`s advanced functions, I`m happy with default ones.

You could install in in OpenSolaris with:
$ pfexec pkg install -v SUNWgnu-mc
$ mc

- muCommander - best way to describe it, I believe, would be "TotalCommander written in Java". Once, Java apps were slow and bulky - but time goes one, code and hardware improves - so, I believe this would be my first Java app that I`ll use on daily basis.
Check it out here. Only thing I miss - is the background copy/delete.

Monitor is the main part of this device to let you see the things you would have done. Choosing the best monitor is a must thing to do.

The ebook guide is in truth fairly short at just 39 pages but this just means all the filler material that is included in other similar guides has been removed.
